منظومة معها الاحزان تنتظمُ
And she turned away when she saw pearls in my whiskers,
And she turned away when she saw pearls in my beard,
strung together—and with them sorrows string themselves.
Strung together, with sorrows strung alongside them.

Hair-dye has its devotees, men who take no pleasure
And ardent longing has a people who take no pleasure
in wearing brocade unless sickness lies beneath it.
In wearing brocade unless sickness lies beneath it.

والحب يوصل إذ لا توصل الرحم
I long for my people—for my play among their camel-saddles;
I long for my kin because of a gazelle among their dwellings,
and love maintains bonds when ties of blood do not.
And love unites when kinship does not.
