تعاليتَyou have risen high عنbeyond قدرِthe measure of المدائحpraises صاعداًascending
تعاليتَ عن قدرِ المدائح صاعداً
فَسِيَّانَso alike are عَفوُoffhand القولِspeech عندكَbefore you والحمدُand praise
فَسِيَّانَ عَفوُ القولِ عندكَ والحمدُ
You have soared beyond the reach of praise,
You transcended the worth of praises, ascending,
So offhand speech and praise are alike before you.
So both pardon in speech and praise are equal in your eyes,
وإنيand indeed I لاdo not أدريknow أنَّthat وَصفَكَdescribing you زائدٌexceeding
وإني لا أدري أنَّ وَصفَكَ زائدٌ
علىbeyond منطقيmy speech لكنbut علىincumbent upon الواصفthe describer الجهدُutmost effort
على منطقي لكن على الواصف الجهدُ
And I do not know that describing you exceeds
And I know not that describing you exceeds
My powers of speech; yet the describer must strive,
My speech, but falls upon the describer as duty,
وأنَّand that قليلa little of القولِspeech يَكثُرgrows great زيغُهُits error
وأنَّ قليل القولِ يَكثُر زيغُهُ
إذاwhen أغرقتgo to excess فيهin it الموالاةُloyalty والوُدُّand affection
إذا أغرقت فيه الموالاةُ والوُدُّ
And that even brief speech abounds in error
And that little speech often goes more astray
When loyalty and affection go to excess in it.
When immersed in allegiance and affection.
