يقرِّبنَ طلاب العُلا من سمائها

يقرِّبنَ طلاب العُلا من سمائها

ويُهدينَ رُوَّاد النَّدى لجوادها

ويُهدينَ رُوَّاد النَّدى لجوادها

They bring seekers of glory close to its heaven,

They bring students of knowledge closer to its heavens,

And present seekers of bounty to its generous giver.

And guide visitors of dew to its generosity.

فلاقَينَ مولانا وقد صَنَعَ السُّرى

فلاقَينَ مولانا وقد صَنَعَ السُّرى

بهنَّ صنيع كفه بِتَلادهَا

بهنَّ صنيع كفه بِتَلادهَا

So they met our lord, with night travel having done

So they met our Master after he had set out at night,

To them what his hand had done to his ancestral wealth.

Treating them as his palm treated his homeland.

ولا ذنبَ للأفكارِ أنتَ تَرَكتَها

ولا ذنبَ للأفكارِ أنتَ تَرَكتَها

إذا احتَشدَت لم تُنتَفعَ باحِتشَادِها

إذا احتَشدَت لم تُنتَفعَ باحِتشَادِها

Nor are thoughts to blame: you have left them

There is no blame on thoughts if you have neglected them -

Unable, when they gather, to benefit from their gathering.

When gathered, they are not benefited by their gathering.

سَبَقتَ بأفرادِ المعاني وأَلَّفت

سَبَقتَ بأفرادِ المعاني وأَلَّفت

خواطرُكَ الألفاظَ بعد شِرادِهَا

خواطرُكَ الألفاظَ بعد شِرادِهَا

You were first with matchless meanings, and

You preceded with individual meanings and composed

Your thoughts brought words into harmony after their wandering.

Your thoughts the words after their dispersal.

فإن نحن حَاوَلنا اختراعَ بديعةٍ

فإن نحن حَاوَلنا اختراعَ بديعةٍ

حَصَلنا على مَسرُوِقها ومُعَادِها

حَصَلنا على مَسرُوِقها ومُعَادِها

So if we try to invent a marvel,

If we try to invent an innovation,

We obtain only its stolen and repeated forms.

We get its stolen and repeated form.
