    O you, when Time looks

    upon you, its admiration grows.

    Summer has departed, so keep

    bidding its caravan farewell forever.

And autumn has appeared, so greet the choicest

part of Time and its essence.

A season radiant like your form—

    if your form admits comparison.

The air has grown mild, so you see

no breath struggling with its distress.

And it has cleared; even if you gaze at its farthest

reach, I would think you near it.

Were it then to turn into wine,

I would not forbid drinking it.

So enjoy it, O its peerless one,

and savor it long, O its axis.
