لاNo وَجُفونby eyelids يَغضُّهاlowers them العذَلُreproach
لا وَجُفون يَغضُّها العذَلُ
عنaway from وَجناتٍcheeks تُذيبُهَاmelt them القُبَلُkisses
عن وَجناتٍ تُذيبُهَا القُبَلُ
No—by eyelids that reproach lowers
No eyelids decline it, ardor effaces,
away from cheeks that kisses melt,
Cheeks roses debases with traces of kisses.
ومُهجةand a heart للهوىto passion مُعَرَّضةexposed
ومُهجة للهوى مُعَرَّضة
تعيثُwreak havoc فيهاwithin it القُدُودُfigures والُمقَلُand eyes
تعيثُ فيها القُدُودُ والُمقَلُ
and by a heart exposed to passion,
A heart for love's yearning exposed and presented,
where figures and eyes wreak havoc:
Where embers of passion burn slow but persistent.
ماnot عاشlived منwhoever غابwas absent عنfrom ذَرَاكyour shelter وإنand even if
ما عاش من غاب عن ذَرَاك وإن
أخَّرَdelays ميقاتَthe appointed hour يوِمهِhis day of death الأَجَلُthe allotted lifespan
أخَّرَ ميقاتَ يوِمهِ الأَجَلُ
he who is far from your shelter has not lived, even if
He cannot survive who from you disappears,
his allotted span delays the hour of his death.
Though late be the day when his death he reveres.
