I became a companion to home and book.

ليس شيءٌ أعزَّ عندي من العل

م فَلِم أبتغي سواه أنيسا

Nothing is dearer to me than knowledge;

why, then, should I seek a companion besides it?

إنما الذُّلُّ في مخالطةِ النَّا

إنما الذُّلُّ في مخالطةِ النَّا

س فَدَعهُم وَعِش عزيزاً رئيسا

س فَدَعهُم وَعِش عزيزاً رئيسا

Humiliation lies only in mingling with people;

so leave them, and live in honor as a leader.
