And the eclipse did not rob the sun of its radiance,
And the eclipse robbed not the sun of its brightness,
but the horizons were barred to it.
But the horizons were veiled unto it.

وضُرٍّand an affliction تُرَىare seen فيon حافَّتَيهits two sides المنافعُthe benefits
And many a hardship has been a means to joy,
And how many a sorrow was the source of gladness,
and many an affliction has benefits visible on either side.
And how much weal lurks in the skirts of bale.
وليسand is not ملوماًblameworthy مَنone who تعالَتrose high هُمومُهhis cares
إذاwhen أنزلَتهbrought him down بالَحضِيضِto the depths القوارِعُcalamities
Nor is one to blame whose cares rise high
And thou'rt not to be blamed if sorrows assail thee
when calamities cast him down to the depths.
When fate hurls thee down from fortune's tall pile.
