Your hands watered my homeland, and tenderly bent

Over it, through you, the clouds, white and black.

And may you long enjoy a life whose softness delights,

And whose freshness looks fair in the eye of Time.

Remembrance of you grew sweet in my mouth, and so shone

The beauties of verse whose chanting is sweet there.

And I swear that, if I have stayed away from you,

Surely judgment has betrayed me, and its sound counsel too.

So, were I to chronicle my life, I would begin it

With a day when its festival shone forth from you.
