منwho عاذريmy defender منagainst زمنٍan age ظالمunjust
ليسis not بمستحيashamed ولاnor راحمmerciful
Who will take my side against an unjust age,
From an unjust time that makes excuses,
Neither ashamed nor merciful?
Neither ashamed nor merciful,
تفعلُdo بالأحرارto noble men أحداثُهits calamities
فِعلَthe action of الهوىpassion الدَّنفِthe lovesick one الهائمِthe love-distraught one
Its calamities do to noble men
Its events do to the free
What passion does to the lovesick, distraught lover,
What lust does to the wild beasts.
كأنماas though أصبحَit had begun يرميهمُshooting at them

عنfrom جَفنِthe eyelid of مولايmy lord أبيAbu (father of) القاسمal-Qasim
As though it had begun to shoot at them
As though in the morning it cast them
From the eyelid of my lord Abu al-Qasim.
From before my Master Abu Al-Qasim's eyes.
