I shall go far from you and discipline myself,

And see how my patience and resolve fare.

So either my love for you will leave me,

Or my destined death will join me.

And I have two companions—longing and tears—

Who help sleeplessness overcome my sleep.

I say, when the south wind blows at night:

My greeting to the encampment and its dweller.

And once the dream-vision would aid an eye,

Kept sleepless, against freely streaming tears.

And if sleep returned, it would restore my union with you,

But there is no way to sleep.

Your sheath [sense uncertain] lies in a heart crazed with love,

    And bloodstained, bleeding eyelids,

And one who yearns for you, who counts consolation

And noble patience apart from you among sins.
