كملتwere perfected بنعتِthrough praise of محمدٍMuhammad خيرِbest of الورىcreation
كملت بنعتِ محمدٍ خيرِ الورى
غررُradiant brows القصائدof the poems كلِّهاall of them وحجولهاand their anklets
غررُ القصائد كلِّها وحجولها
Through praise of Muhammad, best of creation, were perfected
I completed the attributes of Muhammad, the best of creation
The shining brows of all poems and their anklets.
The elite of all poems and their pinnacle
واختصand he was singled out دونapart from الأنبياءthe prophets بدعوةٍfor a call
واختص دون الأنبياء بدعوةٍ
وسعencompassed العبادَthe servants عمومُهاits universality وشمولُهَاand its all-embracing scope
وسع العبادَ عمومُها وشمولُهَا
And he alone among the prophets was granted a call
And he was singled out among the prophets with a call
Whose universality and scope embraced all servants.
Whose generality and inclusiveness encompassed the servants
فاضتpoured forth علىupon الثقلينhumankind and jinn منهfrom him أشعَّةٌrays
فاضت على الثقلين منه أشعَّةٌ
طلعتthey rose وماand not عقبfollowed الطلوعthe rising أفولهاtheir setting
طلعت وما عقب الطلوع أفولها
From him, rays poured over humankind and jinn;
Rays shone from him on the two races
They rose, and no setting followed their rising.
They rose and never declined after rising
فالإنسso humankind تعلمknows أنهthat he مقصودهاthe one it seeks
فالإنس تعلم أنه مقصودها
والجنُّand the jinn توقنare certain أنهthat he مأمولهاthe one they hope for
والجنُّ توقن أنه مأمولها
So humankind knows he is the one it seeks,
So humans knew he was their intended
And the jinn are certain he is the one they hope for.
And jinn were certain he was their hope
كمhow many آيةٍa sign بالصدقِin proof of truthfulness كانwas ظهورهاits appearance
كم آيةٍ بالصدقِ كان ظهورها
كمhow many آيةٍa verse بالسَّبقbeforehand كانwas نزولهاits revelation
كم آيةٍ بالسَّبق كان نزولها
How many a sign appeared in proof of his truthfulness!
How many a verse sincerely appeared
How many a verse was revealed beforehand!
How many a verse descended with precedence
وكفاكand suffices you هذاthis الوحيrevelation فهوfor it is شهادةa testimony
وكفاك هذا الوحي فهو شهادة
لمحمدfor Muhammad لزمwas incumbent upon العبادthe servants قبولهاaccepting it
لمحمد لزم العباد قبولها
And this revelation suffices you: it is a testimony
And this revelation suffices you, for it is a testimony
For Muhammad, which all servants are bound to accept.
For Muhammad, which the servants must accept
جمعgathered الإلهُGod المكرماتِhonors لأمَّةٍfor a community
جمع الإلهُ المكرماتِ لأمَّةٍ
هذاthis النبيthe Prophet الهاشميthe Hashimite رسولهاits messenger
هذا النبي الهاشمي رسولها
God gathered honors for a community
God gathered honors for a nation
Whose messenger is this Hashimite Prophet.
This Hashimite Prophet is its messenger
