أعد نظراً في نسبة الفضل والنُّسك

أعد نظراً في نسبة الفضل والنُّسك

وعُد ليقين الذَّم عن مدحةِ الشك

وعُد ليقين الذَّم عن مدحةِ الشك

Reconsider the attribution of merit and piety,

Reconsider the ratio of virtue and devotion

And return from doubtful praise to certain blame.

And return to the certainty of blame from the praise of doubt

ولا تنسني تلك الحُلَى فهي كلُّها

ولا تنسني تلك الحُلَى فهي كلُّها

حُلاك على ما صحَّ بالسَّير والسَّلك

حُلاك على ما صحَّ بالسَّير والسَّلك

And do not make me forget those adornments, for they are all

And do not forget those adornments, for they are all

Your adornments, as conduct and wayfaring have proved.

Your adornments according to what is proven by conduct and path

وإن جمعتنا في الظواهر نسبةٌ

وإن جمعتنا في الظواهر نسبةٌ

تَخيلُ فإنّ القار في الهون كالمسك

تَخيلُ فإنّ القار في الهون كالمسك

And though an outward affinity may bring us together,

And if an apparent lineage brings us together

It is deceptive, for pitch in the mortar is like musk.

Imagine, for the disgraceful are like musk in baseness
