    I remembered you, and my heart thrilled with longing

    for you; I have no rescuer from your bonds.

    I was terrified at the pain of losing union,

    and that is a terror from which there is no refuge.

    My life's last remnant is spilled along love's path,

    and my heart is cast into the fires of longing.

    My streaming tears are mingled with blood,

    and that is only because my heart is cut to pieces.

    I have lost all thought of solace, and love is an affliction

    that baffles the expert, seasoned though he is.

    وَلَكن سِهَامُ الحُبِّ في القَلبِ نُفَّذُ

    Leave me, you two, for I did not expose my lifeblood to love;

    and yet love's arrows pierce through the heart.

    The blossom of pleasures has withered from longing for you,

    as though the clouds' downpour were withheld from it.

    The sword-point of sorrow gleams between my ribs,

    and my heart has no escape from its two edges.

    I have humbled myself before a beloved who is my whole heart,

    though I find delight in my abasement.

    وَحكمُكَ مَحتُوم وأنتَ المُنَفِّذٌُ

    Your covenant is kept, and your right is binding;

    and your decree is irrevocable, and you enforce it.
