بسعي البغي والمرعى وخيما

بسعي البغي والمرعى وخيما

I departed, having found life bitter,

I traveled and found life to be bitter

Through oppression’s workings, and the pasture unwholesome.

Through striving, pasture, and abode, dreary.

فسنّى الله لي براً حديثاً

فسنّى الله لي براً حديثاً

نسيتُ بطيبه البرّ القديما

نسيتُ بطيبه البرّ القديما

So God granted me fresh kindness;

So God granted me a land fresh and good,

Through its sweetness I forgot the kindness of old.

I forgot through its goodness the old pasture.

فمن يك سائلاً عني فإني

فمن يك سائلاً عني فإني

وجدتُ الله رحمانا رحيما

وجدتُ الله رحمانا رحيما

So if anyone asks about me—indeed, I

If anyone asks of me, I found

Have found God all-merciful and compassionate.

God to be Merciful, Compassionate.
