    فبعد اشتدادٍ للحوادث لينُ

    Be patient when the hardship of calamity befalls you;

For after the severity of misfortunes comes ease.

And never despair of joy after sorrow,

For the days may forsake you, then come to your aid.

For Jacob endured anguish at the loss of Joseph

For eighty years, with longing as his companion.

Then, when his absence dragged on, season after season,

A season of solace in nearness came to his relief.

So embrace contentment with whatever divine decree brings,

For contentment is a guarantor of good things.

And should the night of calamities be feared [reading uncertain] when it darkens,

When its end is a clear dawn of success?
