With praise of God, speech begins,

and whoever seeks attains what is sought.

And who is worthier of that praise than He,

whose blessings are multiplied and immense?

retribution would have struck you swiftly instead of grace.

He guarantees your sustenance every day,

yet you refuse to let suspicion leave you.

You place your hopes in humankind—would that I knew:

who is the Provider, if humankind withholds?

Who, then, revives the earth after death?

And who, by His power, makes the clouds pour down?

but every suckling has its weaning.

So take heed of death: gray hair

at your temple is a halter from her snares.

forgetfulness of your sins, and smiles.

    فلا تكثر فيحطمك الحطام

    You have turned toward worldly chaff to acquire it;

do not amass too much, lest that chaff crush you.

and his brow's radiance is lightning watched for.

A prayer moves quietly behind his reign—

it is keen white swords and arrows.

to a king: visiting him is [a pledge of protection].
