قَتَلَتنيshe slew me بِغَيرِwithout ذَنبٍwrongdoing قَتولُQatul (a woman's name)
قَتَلَتني بِغَيرِ ذَنبٍ قَتولُ
وَحلالٌand lawful لَهاfor her دَميmy blood المَطلولُshed with impunity
وَحلالٌ لَها دَمي المَطلولُ
She who slays has slain me, though I had done no wrong;
Qatul has slain me though I did no wrong,
and lawful to her is my blood, shed and left unavenged.
and my blood, shed with impunity, is lawful for her.
ماno عَلىagainst قاتِلٍa killer أَصابَstruck قَتيلاًa slain victim
ما عَلى قاتِلٍ أَصابَ قَتيلاً
بِدَلالٍwith coy allure وَمُقلَتَينِand a pair of eyes سَبيلُgrounds for redress
بِدَلالٍ وَمُقلَتَينِ سَبيلُ
No claim can lie against a slayer who struck down a victim
No claim lies against a killer who has slain a victim
