بات بثوب القر ذي التحاف
And a limpid draught, clear as air,
Pure as clear air,
Spent the night wrapped in a cloak of cold,
Dressed in the garment of ice crystals,
حتىuntil نفىremoved عنهfrom it القذاةthe speck نافيa purifier
حتى نفى عنه القذاة نافي
فرقthen it grew fine حتىuntil صارit became كالسلافlike choice wine
فرق حتى صار كالسلاف
Until a purifier cleared it of specks;
Even a speck of dust denied closeness.
Then it grew fine, until it was like choice wine,
Melted until smooth as silk,
أسرعswifter فيthrough الجسمthe body منthan العوافيhealing
أسرع في الجسم من العوافي
فيهin it الجليدthe ice راسبsunken وطافيand floating
فيه الجليد راسب وطافي
Swifter through the body than healing.
Faster through flesh than raging storms,
In it lies ice, sunken and afloat,
In it settled and floating ice.
كأنهas though it were ودائعthe treasures الأصدافof shells
كأنه ودائع الأصداف
As though it were the treasures of shells.
As if it were pearls in shells.
