خَوضَ الدُجى وَاِعتِسافَ المَهمَةِ البيدِ
My love of making Sawwār self-sufficient compels me
My desire to enrich Sawwar compels me
to brave the darkness and strike blindly across vast, barren wastes,
To plunge into the darkness and cross the trackless desert wastes,

So that his need is not slighted by his paternal uncles,

Nor is he put off from it with promises;

Nor, if he comes asking for it, should he show them
his shoulders averted among the pale camels, sent back rebuffed.
His shoulders as he turns away, rejected amid the pale camels.
إِذاwhen بَكىhe weeps قالَhe says مِنهُمamong them ذوpossessor of الحِفاظِa sense of honor لَهُto him

When he weeps, a man of family honor among them says to him:
When he weeps, the man of honor among them says to him:
“You have indeed been afflicted with an unworthy disposition.”
"You have indeed been afflicted with a trait unworthy of praise."
