والماء من فضة لا ساد من بخلا
Nay, by Him who created tawny wine from gold,
No, by Him who made the dawn from gold
And water from silver—may no miser ever rise to eminence!
And water from silver, I'll never quit being generous.

يقول لي دعبل في بطنه حبل

ولو أصابت ثيابي دعبلا حبلا
Diʿbil says of me, “There is a pregnancy in his belly.”
Dubayl in his gut, he says I have a rope,
And if my clothes so much as touched Diʿbil, he would conceive.
Even if Dubayl's robes had touched me, I wouldn't care a rope.
ودعهلand Daʿhal رجلa man ماwhatever شئتyou wished منof رجلa man
ودعهل رجل ما شئت من رجل
لوif كانwere اسفلهhis lower part منfrom خلفهbehind him رجلاa man
لو كان اسفله من خلفه رجلا
And Daʿhal would be a man—as fine a man as you could wish—
Leave Dubayl be whatever man you want,
If his lower half at the back were manly.
Even if his legs were behind his back.
