وحلى الشتاء حلول المقيم

If you find yourself lodging in a town
And winter has settled in like a permanent resident,
When winter’s grip holds fast and long,

ترد الثياب يخزي عظيم
For many a slippery patch along the road's edges
For many are the slippery slopes
Sends one's clothes back in great disgrace.

And many a scoundrel rides out in the morning,
And many a villain lurks in wait
Wishing harm upon a noble man on foot.
To bring on grief for men of worth.
