هلُمَّcome إلىto ماthat which عُذِّبتْwas tormented طولَthroughout ليلهاher night
هلُمَّ إلى ما عُذِّبتْ طولَ ليلها
بنارٍby fire فأضحتْso she became يَطَّبِيناlures us زَفيرُهاher sighing
بنارٍ فأضحتْ يَطَّبِينا زَفيرُها
Come to her who was tormented all through her night
by fire, so now her sighing lures us.
ترنَّمُshe sings منfrom تحتِbeneath الخِناقِthe noose تَغيُّظاًin fury
ترنَّمُ من تحتِ الخِناقِ تَغيُّظاً
ترنُّمَthe singing of ثكلىa bereaved mother شّذَّstrayed عنهاfrom her فريرُهاher young
ترنُّمَ ثكلى شّذَّ عنها فريرُها
She sings beneath the noose in fury,
the song of a bereaved mother whose young has strayed from her.
هَلُمَّcome إليهاto her حِسْبةًseeking divine reward لتُعينَهاto help her
هَلُمَّ إليها حِسْبةً لتُعينَها
فأنتfor you، لعَمريby my life، عونُهاher helper ونصيرُهاand her champion
فأنت، لعَمري، عونُها ونصيرُها
Come to her, seeking divine reward, to help her;
for you, by my life, are her helper and her champion.
