لكز فتى من بني لكيز
يهديit bestows لهon him أهونthe slightest الهوانhumiliation
يهدي له أهون الهوان
Is punching a youth of Banu Lukayz,
Is a lad of the tribe of Lakiz,
Bestowing on him the slightest humiliation.
Who offers him the most precious gift.
أهوىlunged لهat him بازلa full-grown camel خدبhuge
أهوى له بازل خدب
يطحنcrushing قرنيهhis two temples بالجرانwith the leathery underside of its neck
يطحن قرنيه بالجران
A huge, full-grown camel lunged at him,
I love his prominent cheek bones,
Crushing his temples with its leathery neck.
That grind down his opponents with a millstone.
فنالso he got the better منهof him ثؤورan avenger قومa clan
فنال منه ثؤور قوم
باليدwith the hand طوراًat times وبلسانand with the tongue
باليد طوراً وبلسان
So a clan's avenger assailed him,
He attained glory for his people’s banners
Now with his hand, now with his tongue.
With his hand and tongue.
وكانand he used to يفسوfart silently فصارso he became حقاًtruly
وكان يفسو فصار حقاً
يضرطfart aloud منfrom خوفfear of مضرطانMudratan
يضرط من خوف مضرطان
And he once passed wind silently; now, indeed,
He was excellent, and thus in truth became
He farts aloud for fear of Mudratan.
Petrified with fear like a bellowing camel.
