إِنَّindeed شَهْرَthe month الصِّيامِof fasting إِذْwhen جاءَcame فيin فَصْseason (first part)
إِنَّ شَهْرَ الصِّيامِ إِذْ جاءَ في فَصْ
لِ(completes 'season') رَبيعٍof spring أَوْدىdid away بِحُسْنٍwith beauty وطِيبِand fragrance
لِ رَبيعٍ أَوْدى بِحُسْنٍ وطِيبِ
Indeed, when the month of fasting came in the season
of spring, it did away with beauty and fragrance.
فَكَأَنَّso it is as though الوَرْدَthe rose المُضَعَّفَdouble-petaled فيduring الصَّوْthe fast (first part)
فَكَأَنَّ الوَرْدَ المُضَعَّفَ في الصَّوْ
مِ(completes 'the fast') حَبيبٌa beloved يَمْشيwalks بِجَنْبِbeside رَقيبِa watcher
مِ حَبيبٌ يَمْشي بِجَنْبِ رَقيبِ
So the double-petaled rose during the fast seemed
a beloved walking beside a watcher.
