ولَيْلَةٍ لَيْلاءَ في اللْ

ولَيْلَةٍ لَيْلاءَ في اللْ

لَوْنِ كَلَوْنِ المِفْرَقِ

لَوْنِ كَلَوْنِ المِفْرَقِ

And a pitch-dark night, in

A night of nights in beauty

color like the color of a hair-parting;

Of hue like hue of parting

كَأَنَّما نُجومُها

كَأَنَّما نُجومُها

في مَغْرِبٍ ومَشْرِقِ

في مَغْرِبٍ ومَشْرِقِ

as though its stars

As though its stars were

in the west and the east

In West and East dispersed -

دَراهِم مَنْثورَةٌ

دَراهِم مَنْثورَةٌ

على بِساطٍ أَزْرَقِ

على بِساطٍ أَزْرَقِ

were scattered dirhams

Silver coins strewn out

upon a blue carpet.

Upon a carpet blue
