من خزك المصونة الكثاف
You clothed me in it; it is like padded armor,
It adorned me, yet was like aridity
made of your carefully kept, thick silks.
From your thick, guarded velvet

كأنني فيها وفي اللحاف

من عبد شمسٍ أو بني مناف
In it and in the quilt, it is as though I were
As though I were in it and the blanket
of ʿAbd Shams or the sons of Manāf.
A slave of suns or Bani Manaf

And the silk yearns for fine striped cloth.
While the velvet yearns for the hems
