إن الكلابي اللئيم الاثرما
أعطىhe gave علىin return for المدحةthe praise ناباan old she-camel عِرزماdecrepit
أعطى على المدحة نابا عِرزما
Indeed, the vile, broken-toothed al-Kilabi
The wretched, ignoble dog gave
gave a decrepit old she-camel in return for praise;
On the eulogy a stinging bite
ماجبرhe did not mend العظمthe bone ولكنbut تمماhe finished breaking it
ماجبر العظم ولكن تمما
he did not mend the bone, but finished breaking it.
It did not break the bone but left a mark
