رَبعت على الصحابة والركاب

رَبعت على الصحابة والركاب

Were it not for my desire for Ali’s lips,

I would have gone easy on the companions and the mounts.

ولكن الوسائل من علىٍ

ولكن الوسائل من علىٍ

خلصن الى الفؤاد من الحجاب

خلصن الى الفؤاد من الحجاب

But the bonds that come from Ali

Have passed through the veil into my heart.

وليس كأم حماد خليل

وليس كأم حماد خليل

اذا ما لامر جلّ عن الخطاب

اذا ما لامر جلّ عن الخطاب

And no close friend is like Umm Hammad,

When faced with a matter too great for words.

منعمةً ارى فتقرّ عيني

منعمةً ارى فتقرّ عيني

وتكفيني خلائقها عتابي

وتكفيني خلائقها عتابي

I see her living in comfort, and my eye is gladdened;

And her ways spare me the need for reproach.
