Thaqif knows full well—this is no boast—
Thaqif has learned, though not with boastful pride,
that we have the finest swords among them,
That we are foremost with our sharpened swords,
وأكثرُهاand having the most among them دُروعاًcoats of mail ضَافياتٍfull-length
وأكثرُها دُروعاً ضَافياتٍ
وأصبرُهاand its most steadfast إذاwhen كرهِواthey dislike الوُقوفاstanding firm
وأصبرُها إذا كرهِوا الوُقوفا
and the greatest number of full-length coats of mail,
That we've the most coats of mail and generous steeds,
and are the most steadfast among them when they shrink from standing firm;
That we've the stoutest hearts when forced to bide,
وأنّاand that we رِفدُهُمtheir support فيin كلّevery يومٍday

فإن غَضِبُوا فَسَل رُجلاً عَريفا
and that we are their support every day.
That we're their help in each and every need.
So if they take offense, ask a knowledgeable man.
So if they're wroth, just ask an honest man.
