Tomorrow is a day of decision for the two sides, so be steadfast.

And charge at the champions as an encircled warrior charges.

Thus my stallion counseled me and said to me:

Be steadfast tomorrow, O Taghlibi, and gird yourself.

And I was clothed in the robe of glory at its dawn,

And I have an arm joined to a tempered sword.

And Taghlib, my people, are unassailable when they charge

    Into battle in double-layered armor.

A sobering awakening will tell the non-Arabs' skulls,

When we meet, what Mundhir's protection means.

You thought ill of ʿIjl, and supposed that they

Were escorting fair brides of noble lineage and honor.

She has noble ancestry among mankind, O son of a base woman,

And kingship like that of Himyar, the kings of mankind.
