Where are the kings, and where is all they amassed, and all

they hoarded of gold—the treasure that passes away?

Where are the ample coats of mail, the keen swords, and the lances,

and the neighing steeds, the stout and the gaunt?

Their fleet horses once carried from among them

moons of assembly halls and lions of battalions.

They were lions lurking unseen, yet they

dwelt in thickets of spearheads and cutting swords.

The wind of death shattered them, and struck them

the hand of Fate with every unerring arrow.
