Woe to the people of the Fire within the Fire!
What they endure from the Fire!
تَنقَدُّit splits apart مِنfrom غَيظٍrage فَتَغليthen it boils بِهِمwith them
كَمِرجَلٍlike a cauldron يَغليboiling عَلىover النارِthe fire
It splits apart in fury, then boils with them,
Like a cauldron boiling over a fire.
فَيَستَغيثونَso they cry for help لِكَيso that يُعتَبواthey may be granted relief
لَعاًmay you rise again! مِنfrom عَثرَةِa fall into النارِthe Fire
So they cry for help, hoping to be granted relief.
Oh, to rise again from a fall into the Fire!
وَكُلُّهُمand all of them مُعتَرِفٌconfessing نادِمٌremorseful
لَوif only تُقبَلُwere accepted التَوبَةُrepentance فيin النارِthe Fire
And all of them confess, remorseful—
If only repentance were accepted in the Fire!

فَالوَيلُso woe لِلأَشقىto the most wretched مِنَfrom النارِthe Fire
The most wretched plunges into it headfirst;
Woe, then, to the most wretched from the Fire!
فَتارَةًthen at times يَطفوhe floats عَلىupon جَمرِهاits embers

At times he floats upon its embers,
And at times he sinks into the Fire.

فَرَّhe fled مِنَfrom النارِthe Fire إِلىinto النارِthe Fire
And whenever he seeks escape within it,
He flees from the Fire into the Fire.

He wanders from a viper to a speckled serpent,
And its venom is stronger than the Fire.

And many a speckled serpent within it never ceases
To sting whoever is dragged through the Fire.

هَيهاتَfar from it! لاno راحَةَrest فيin النارِthe Fire
There is no rest in it, nor any respite;
Far from it! There is no rest in the Fire.

Its breaths close tightly over them,
And such are the breaths within the Fire.

Glory to Him who holds their souls
In the lowest depth, within the Fire.

And even if the earth's mountains plunged into it,
They would melt as copper melts in fire.

Blessed is whoever gains the abode of piety,
And is not among the fuel of the Fire.

And woe to one given a long life who is not
Shown mercy, nor set free from the Fire.

O people, take your precautions,
And fortify the shield against the Fire.

For it is among your worst enemies;
Among foes, none is more hostile than the Fire.

فَذِكرُهُfor remembrance of Him يُنجيsaves مِنَfrom النارِthe Fire
And remember your Master often,
For remembrance of Him saves from the Fire.

يَلهوhe amuses himself وَلاand does not يَحفِلُcare بِالنارِabout the Fire
How astonishing is a carefree, playful man,
Who amuses himself and pays no heed to the Fire.
يوقِنُhe is certain بِالنارِof the Fire وَلاand does not يَرعَويdesist
كَأَنَّهُas though he يَرتابُdoubts فيabout النارِthe Fire

He is certain of the Fire, yet does not desist,
As though he doubted the Fire.

Though he is in clear danger from it,
Were he wise, he would not risk facing the Fire.
إِنَّindeed الأَلِبّاءَthe discerning هُمُthey قِلَّةٌfew
فَرّواthey fled إِلىto اللَهِGod مِنَfrom النارِthe Fire
The discerning are indeed few;
They fled to God from the Fire,
وَطَلَّقواand they divorced الدُنياthis world بَتاتاًirrevocably وَلَمand did not

And divorced this world irrevocably, never
Turning back to it, for fear of the Fire.
وَأَبصَرواand they saw مِنamong عَيبِهاits faults أَنَّهاthat it
فَتّانَةٌa temptress تَدعوcalling إِلىto النارِthe Fire
And saw, among its faults, that it
Is a temptress calling to the Fire.
فَطابَتِso became content الأَنفُسُthe souls مِنهُمof them بِأَنbecause

So their souls became content because
He made them safe from the terror of the Fire.
وَاللَهِby God لَوif أَعقِلُI had sense لَمnot تَكتَحِلwould be kohled

By God, had I sense, my eye would not be kohled
With sleep, for fear of the Fire.

Nor would my tears cease, and I do not know
That I am safe from the Fire.

When I recalled the molten metal in the Fire.

Nor would I find pleasure in any taste, when
I thought of Zaqqum in the Fire.

What delight can there be in bliss, if
It leads to wretchedness in the Fire?
أَمor أَيُّwhat خَيرٍgood فيin سُرورٍjoy إِذاif

Or what good is there in joy, if
It brings prolonged sorrow in the Fire?

So ponder its terror, and beware
Of what God has warned against in the Fire.

For it lies in wait for its people,
Thrusting them violently into the Fire.

For one like me seeks not a single grain,
Save deliverance from the Fire.

And how often I have begged His mercy, humbly pleading:
O Lord, make me forbidden to the Fire.

For You are my Master, and I have no Lord
But You; free me from the Fire.

And You have never ceased to hear me saying:
I seek refuge in God from the Fire.
