Where are the kings and where is what they amassed,
they hoarded of gold, that fleeting worldly wealth,
And what they hoarded of fleeting gold wares,

Of thoroughbred steeds, swords and spears,
and of neighing steeds, stout and lean?
Of heavily armed soldiers and drinking cups?

Their swiftest steeds once bore, from among them,
Their vanguard used to carry, among them,
moons of assemblies and lions of battalions.
Moons of gatherings and lions of battalions.

They were lions of Khafiyya, yet they
They were lurking lions, but they
dwelt in thickets of spearheads and keen-edged swords.
Inhabited thickets of pegged tents and ships.

The wind of death shattered them, and they were struck by
The wind of destruction blew them away and fate
the hand of doom with every unerring arrow.
Struck them with every precise arrow.
