أَيا وَزيراً لَم يَزَل آخِذاً

أَيا وَزيراً لَم يَزَل آخِذاً

عِندَ المُلِمّاتِ بِأَيدينا

عِندَ المُلِمّاتِ بِأَيدينا

O vizier, who has never ceased to take

O minister who has always seized

us by the hand in times of calamity,

Our hands during adversities

وَسَيِّداً نَحكُمُ في مالِهِ

وَسَيِّداً نَحكُمُ في مالِهِ

وَجاهِهِ النامي بِما شينا

وَجاهِهِ النامي بِما شينا

and lord, whose wealth we command,

And lord whose growing fame we decree

and whose growing influence, as we please:

However we wish to demean

أَراكَ مَشغولاً بِكَسبِ العُلا

أَراكَ مَشغولاً بِكَسبِ العُلا

وَحارِساً دُنياكَ وَالدينا

وَحارِساً دُنياكَ وَالدينا

I see you busy attaining eminence,

I see you busy gaining status

and guarding your worldly life and the faith.

And guarding your world and faith

فَاجعَل مِنَ اللَيلِ لَنا ساعَةً

فَاجعَل مِنَ اللَيلِ لَنا ساعَةً

يَحكُمُ فيها مالَهُ جينا

يَحكُمُ فيها مالَهُ جينا

So set aside an hour of the night for us,

So spare us an hour of the night

in which what we came for may hold sway.

When our minds rule unfettered

وَلا يَكُن يَحضُرنا ثالِثٌ

وَلا يَكُن يَحضُرنا ثالِثٌ

فَرُبَّما الثالِثُ يُؤذينا

فَرُبَّما الثالِثُ يُؤذينا

And let no third person be present with us,

With no third party joining our meet

for a third might harm us.

Lest the third causes grief and deceit
