لاno قُوَةٌstrength لِيَfor me ياO رَبّيmy Lord فَأَنتَصِرُso I may prevail
لا قُوَةٌ لِيَ يا رَبّي فَأَنتَصِرُ
وَلاand no بَراءَةَinnocence مِنfrom ذَنبيmy sin فَأَعتَذِرُso I may offer an excuse
وَلا بَراءَةَ مِن ذَنبي فَأَعتَذِرُ
I have no strength, my Lord, with which to prevail,
No strength have I, my Lord, so Thou defend
Nor am I innocent of my sin, that I might offer an excuse.
No plea of innocence, so I apologize
فَإِنso if تُعاقِبYou punish فَأَهلٌthen I am deserving لِلعِقابِof punishment وَإِنand if
فَإِن تُعاقِب فَأَهلٌ لِلعِقابِ وَإِن
تَغفِرYou forgive فَعَفوُكَthen Your pardon مَأمولٌhoped for وَمُنتَظَرُand awaited
تَغفِر فَعَفوُكَ مَأمولٌ وَمُنتَظَرُ
So if You punish me, I deserve punishment; and if You
If Thou dost punish, I deserve the pain
Forgive, Your pardon is hoped for and awaited.
If Thou forgiv'st, Thy pardon I await
إِنَّindeed العَظيمَthe Great One إِذاif لَمnot يَعفُHe pardons مُقتَدِراًwhile fully able
إِنَّ العَظيمَ إِذا لَم يَعفُ مُقتَدِراً
عَنِfor العَظيمِa grievous sin فَمَنthen who يَعفوpardons وَيَقتَدِرُand has the power
عَنِ العَظيمِ فَمَن يَعفو وَيَقتَدِرُ
Indeed, if the Great One does not pardon, though fully able,
For when the Great's forgiving power's gone
A grievous sin, then who can pardon and possess such power?
Who then shall pardon show, or mercy take?
