أَيُّwhich of خَطيئاتِيَmy sins أَبكيI weep دَماblood
وَهيَand they are كَثيرٌmany كَنُجومِlike the stars of السَماthe sky
For which of my sins shall I weep blood?
Which of my sins should I weep blood over
And they are as many as the stars of the sky.
When they are many like the stars of the sky
قَدindeed طَمَسَتthey have blotted out عَقليmy reason فَماso not أَهتَديI find my way
وَأَورَثَتand they have bequeathed عَينَthe eye of فُؤاديmy heart العَمىblindness
They have blotted out my reason, so I cannot find my way,
They have obscured my mind so I cannot find guidance
and bequeathed blindness to the eye of my heart.
And caused the blindness of my heart's eye
إِنّاindeed we إِلىto اللَهِGod لَقَدindeed حَلَّhas befallen بيupon me
خَطبٌa calamity غَداhas become صُبحيmy morning بِهِbecause of it مُظلِماdark
Surely we are bound for God! There has indeed befallen me
Truly my state with God has brought me
a calamity that has turned my morning dark.
Calamities that have darkened my mornings
