I have come to You in hope, O Possessor of Majesty.

So relieve the misery You see in my condition.

I disobeyed You, my Master—woe to me—in my ignorance,

and the shame of sin never crossed my mind.

To whom does a slave complain except

to his master, O Master of masters?

By my life, would that my mother had not borne me,

and I had not angered You in the darkness of the nights.

So here I am, Your disobedient servant, in need

of Your mercy; so grant me my request.

For if You punish, O my Lord, You punish

rightfully, with torment and exemplary chastisement.

And if You pardon, then Your pardon has shown me [sense unclear],

for my deeds and my heavy burdens of sin.
