ياO دائِبينَpersisting عَلىin الفَحشَاءِindecency وَيلَكُمُwoe to you
أَلبَستُمُyou have clothed شَيخَكُمyour elder ثَوباًa garment مِنَof العارِshame
O you who persist in indecency, woe to you!
O you who persist in lewdness, woe to you!
You have clothed your elder in a garment of shame.
You have clothed your elder in a robe of shame.
أَلإبنُthe son فيin دارِكُمyour house صِهرٌa son-in-law لِوالِدِهِto his father
وَالأَخُand the brother قَدmay يَنثَنِيturn away عَنfrom كَلبِهِhis dog الحارِhot; ardent
The son in your house is his father's son-in-law.
Your son is a son-in-law to his own father,
And the brother may turn away from his hot-blooded dog.
And a brother may turn away from his own bitch in heat.
ماnot تَحفَظونَyou honor أَباكُمyour father فيregarding حَلائِلِهِhis wives

You do not honor your father with regard to his wives.
You do not preserve your father's honor in his wives,
And the dog is a spouse—may God curse such a household!
Yet a dog guards jealously that which God has kept from his house.
أَحيَيتُمُyou have revived سُنَّةًa custom دانَadhered المَجوسُthe Magians بِهاto it

You have revived a custom the Magians adhered to.
You have revived a tradition which even the Magians condemned,
So, like them, venerate a house of fire.
So exalt, like them, a house of fire!
