And indeed I have marveled at the people of this Taif,

And their turning away from this Prophet, the expounder,

And from God—in his speech there is no

Breach of promise; he speaks words of understanding.

So if Thaqif do not hasten to repent

And turn away from the course of the crooked road,

Their misguided men will surely be assailed at dawn in their own home

By a mighty host of ours, vast in number, advancing.

In it are armored warriors on steeds, as though they were

Lions that went forth on an overcast morning of pouring rain,

Until they subdue every fair-browed man among them,

Who shuns the paths of guidance and turns aside,

Who calls to the paths of error, opposing

The paths of guidance, never turning toward the truth,

Or they perish as ʿAd perished before them,

By the blowing of a wind bearing storm-driven dust,

Or believe in Muhammad and proclaim the greatness of

The Lord of the Throne; a believer is not like an opponent,

Captive at heart, who sees error as gain,

And sees guidance as a mixture of fetid poison.

And God grants us victory, and Ahmad is in our midst,

Like the full moon at mid-month, not eclipsed.

We march at our Prophet’s command, and we are made mighty by

The revelation of the Book, from the All-Aware, the Gracious.
