Have the worn ruins at Wajrah stirred your longing,

Like inverted writing appearing on parchment?

They were ravaged until they faded and became unrecognizable,

By months and days gone by, and long ages.

There, the seeker who has lost his young she-camel almost

Loses his way, for no creature has a resting-place there.

    Horse-tethering places and a kneeling-place for a camel herd—

So where can you see this, and seek out that?

Listen: you two, carry a message from me to Quraysh,

And do not obscure it, for the truth is not obscure.

So do not abandon a right that is yours and squander

Something precious; God's religion is higher and more precious.

For dawn has appeared to the night traveler, bringing sight

To eyes of yours that were almost blinded to the truth.

    فَطالِبُ دينِ اللَهِ أَعلى وَأَكيَسُ

    Turn back to the religion of the Prophet Muhammad;

For the seeker of God's religion is nobler and wiser.

And do not slacken in seeking your Prophet,

For none hangs back from him except one plagued by doubts.

And wear out every sturdy, swift camel on the journey to him,

A thick-cheeked, hardy she-camel keeping pace with it, like a bull camel.

So let no mention of a trackless desert deter you from reaching him,

Where the massive, mighty, powerful camel grows weary.

Would you be content with a lord whose aid is scant

For its worshippers, forever dumb and mute?

A fragment of rock—a bull camel has struck its head

And felled it with a killing blow, so it does not breathe.

Whoever among you passed away did so without insight

To restrain him; and how many souls were driven to the Fire!

Come to the counsel of the sincere adviser who has come

With a truth whose face shines and which cannot be held back.

For you have no books from God marking a clear path

That a scholar or a hooded monk might recognize.

So God is not pleased if you worship any other than Him,

Nor has revelation come to you from God to be studied.

So Moses' followers have not approved it as your religion,

    Nor Jesus' followers who became deacons;

Nor do the kindlers of fire in Persia

See any excuse for you whenever they look closely.

For none of this world's children on earth is immortal,

And all of them must die; they will be buried.

And all will be raised for God at the resurrection,

Each recompensed, paid his due in full, never shortchanged.

So some are destined for the fire of Hell,

Because of their bankruptcy; the stone-worshipper is most bankrupt.

    ثِيابُهُمُ فيها حَريرٌ وَسُندُسُ

    And some have their dwelling in the gardens of eternal life;

Their garments there are silk and fine brocade.

    فَجِدّوا لِإِنذاري وَلا تَتَحَبَّسوا

    So, O people, here is a warning for you;

So heed my warning earnestly, and do not delay.

So whoever accepts my counsel will arrive with his face

Smooth and free of sin on the Day of Resurrection.

And whoever refuses my counsel, death will come to him against his will,

And he will meet the sovereign of death, scowling.
