يقولون زُرنا واقضِ واجِبَ حقّنا

يقولون زُرنا واقضِ واجِبَ حقّنا

وقد أسقطت حالي حقوقَهُم عني

وقد أسقطت حالي حقوقَهُم عني

They say, “Visit us and fulfill the duty you owe us.”

They say, "Visit us and fulfill your obligation to us,"

Yet my state has relieved me of their claims upon me.

Yet my state has released me from their rights.

إذا أبصروا حالي ولم يأنفوا لها

إذا أبصروا حالي ولم يأنفوا لها

ولم يأنفوا منها أنِفت لهم مني

ولم يأنفوا منها أنِفت لهم مني

If they see my state and feel no shame for it,

If they saw my condition and were not averse to it,

And do not recoil from it, I feel ashamed of myself for their sake.

And if they did not spurn it, I would not spurn them.
