ياO بديعَwondrous in الدَلِّcoyness والغَنَجِand coquetry
لكto you belongs سلطانsway علىover المُهَجِhearts
O you of wondrous coyness and coquetry,
O you of perfect charm and beauty
You hold sway over hearts.
You have power over my soul
إنindeed بيتاًa house أنتyou ساكِنُهُits inhabitant
غيرُnot محتاجِin need إِلىof السُرجِlamps
Surely, a house in which you dwell
In a home where you dwell
Has no need of lamps.
Needs no lamp to light its rooms
وعليلاًand an ailing person أنتyou عائدُهُhis visitor
قُدalready أتاهhas come to him اللهGod بالفرجِwith relief
And an ailing person whom you visit—
And a sick man for whom you care
God has already brought him relief.
May find his cure drawing near
وجهُكyour face المأمولُhoped-for حجَّتُناour proof
يومon the day يأتيcome الناسُpeople بالحُججِwith proofs
Your hoped-for face is our proof
Your face for which we hope
On the day people come bearing proofs.
Will plead for us on Judgment Day
لاmay … not أتاحgrant اللهGod ليto me فَرَجاًrelief
يومthe day أدعوI pray منكfrom you بالفرجِfor relief
May God grant me no relief
May God grant me no solace
The day I pray for relief from you.
On that day I call to you for aid
