يقول خليلي كيف صبرك عنهم
فقلتso I said وهلand is there صَبرٌpatience فيسألso one might ask عنabout كَيفِhow
فقلت وهل صَبرٌ فيسأل عن كَيفِ
My friend says, “How can you endure being apart from them?”
My close friend says, “How fares your patience apart from them?”
I said, “Do I have any patience, that anyone should ask me how?”
So I said, “Is there any patience, that one might ask how it fares?”
بقلبيin my heart هوىlove أذكَىmore fiercely burning منthan النارfire حَرُّهُits heat
بقلبي هوى أذكَى من النار حَرُّهُ
وأحلىand sweeter منthan التقوىpiety وامضَىand sharper منthan السيفthe sword
وأحلى من التقوى وامضَى من السيف
Within my heart is a love whose heat burns fiercer than fire,
In my heart is a love whose heat is fiercer than fire,
sweeter than piety and keener than the sword.
And sweeter than piety and sharper than the sword.
