وأيسَرُ مافي الذكرِ ذكرُ لساني

وأيسَرُ مافي الذكرِ ذكرُ لساني

I remembered you—not that I had forgotten you for an instant.

I remembered you not because I forgot you for a moment,

And the easiest part of remembrance is my tongue’s remembrance.

And the easiest thing to remember is my tongue remembering you,

وكِدتُ بلا وَجدٍ أموتُ من الهوى

وكِدتُ بلا وَجدٍ أموتُ من الهوى

وهام عليَّ القلبُ بالخفقانِ

وهام عليَّ القلبُ بالخفقانِ

And without ecstasy I nearly died of passionate love.

I almost died of passion without finding you,

And my heart went wild within me, throbbing.

And my heart pounded with anxiety,

فلما أراني الوجدُ أنَّكَ حاضري

فلما أراني الوجدُ أنَّكَ حاضري

شَهِدتُكَ موجوداً بكل مكانِ

شَهِدتُكَ موجوداً بكل مكانِ

So when ecstasy showed me that you were present with me,

So when passion showed me that you are present,

I witnessed you present in every place.

I felt you present everywhere,

فخاطبتُ موجوداً بغير تكلم

فخاطبتُ موجوداً بغير تكلم

ولاحظت معلوما بغيرِ عيانِ

ولاحظت معلوما بغيرِ عيانِ

So I addressed one present, without speaking,

So I addressed you, present without speaking,

And beheld one known, without direct sight.

And saw you known without seeing.
