تَمنَّيتُ ناراً أستضيُ بضَوئِها

تَمنَّيتُ ناراً أستضيُ بضَوئِها

فلمّا أضاءَت أحرقَتني شُعاعُها

I wished for a fire by whose light I might be illumined.

But when it shone, its radiance burned me.
