شققتُI tore جَيبيmy collar عليكover you حقّاtruly
وماand not لجيبيfor my collar عليكover you شقَّاrending
I truly tore my collar over you,
I tore my pocket for you, truly
though my collar did not deserve to be torn over you.
Yet my pocket owed you no tear
أردتI intended قلبيmy heart فصافَحتهُso they clasped it
يدايmy two hands بالجيبat the collar إذwhen توفَّىdied
I meant my heart; then it was clasped
I wanted my heart, so my hands clasped it
by my hands at the collar, at the time of death.
At the pocket when it was denied
لوif كانwere قلبيmy heart مكانin place of جَيبيmy collar
لكانthen it would have been للشقِّfor the rending مستحقاdeserving
Had my heart been in place of my collar,
Had my heart been in place of my pocket
it would have deserved to be torn.
The tear would have been well deserved
