فغدا به صلتاً عليَّ وأقدما
This is Abu Bakr, whose sword I polished;
This is Abu Bakr, I sharpened his sword
So with it he grew bold against me, and more daring.
So with it he prayed for me and marched forward
امسىhe has become يُجهلنيcalls me ignorant بماwith what علمتُهُI taught him
امسى يُجهلني بما علمتُهُ
ويريشand fletches منfrom ريشيmy feathers لرميfor shooting أسهماarrows
ويريش من ريشي لرمي أسهما
He now calls me ignorant with what I taught him,
Now he pretends he doesn't know me
And fletches arrows from my own feathers for shooting.
And aims my own feathers to shoot arrows

O you who draw a bow made firm by my hand,
O you who tightened the bowstring with my hands
And aim a spear straightened by my hand:
And straightened the spear with my hands to thrust
