ألاtake heed أبلغconvey بنيthe sons of شارٍShār كلاميmy words
ألا أبلغ بني شارٍ كلامي
ومنand whoever لمhas not يلقهمmet them فهوthen he is السعيدُthe fortunate one
ومن لم يلقهم فهو السعيدُ
Take heed: convey my words to the sons of Shār.
Convey my words to the people of Shar,
And whoever has never met them is the fortunate one.
And whoever does not meet them is fortunate.
علامwhy ابتعتمyou bought فرساًa horse عتيقاًthoroughbred
علام ابتعتم فرساً عتيقاً
وليسand there is no لديكمُin your possession علفٌfodder عتيدُready at hand
وليس لديكمُ علفٌ عتيدُ
Why did you buy a thoroughbred horse,
Why did you buy an old horse,
when you have no fodder at hand?
When you have no proper fodder?
وفيمand why حبستموyou confined فيin البيتthe house بازاًa hawk
وفيم حبستمو في البيت بازاً
يحيصswerve away الطيرُthe birds عنهfrom it أوor يحيدُturn aside
يحيص الطيرُ عنه أو يحيدُ
And why have you confined a hawk in the house,
Why did you coop a falcon in the house,
from which the birds swerve away or turn aside?
When the birds shy away or swerve from it?
فلاso neither قرfragment of 'kept through its moult' نصتموهcontinuation: 'you kept it through its moult' فعلتموهand then fed it
فلا قر نصتموه فعلتموه
ولاnor خليتمyou let go عنهaway from it يصيدُit hunts
ولا خليتم عنه يصيدُ
So you neither kept it through its moult and fed it,
You neither kept it still nor let it go,
nor left it free to hunt.
Nor did you let it hunt and take prey.
