ياO عضدʿAḍud; arm الدولةal-Dawla; the state منfrom يمناهاher right hand
يا عضد الدولة من يمناها
ياO مهجةsoul; heart’s blood قالتsaid لهاto her أعلاهاher highest part
يا مهجة قالت لها أعلاها
O ʿAḍud al-Dawla, from her right hand,
O pillar of the state, he who guides it,
“O soul,” her highest part said to her:
O beloved, its heights have spoken,
منwhoever أسخطdispleased الدرهمthe dirham أرضىpleased اللهGod
من أسخط الدرهم أرضى الله
ومنand whoever أزالremoved المالwealth صانpreserved الجاهاstanding; prestige
ومن أزال المال صان الجاها
Whoever displeases the dirham pleases God;
He who angers money pleases God,
And whoever parts with wealth preserves his standing.
And he who rids wealth preserves glory.
