I have seen you, when I prosper, pitch your tent with us,
If you come by this way, stay here awhile
Staying on; but when I fall into hardship, you visit only rarely.
If not, then visit us another day

فما أنت إلا البدر إن قل ضوؤه
أغبit visited intermittently وإنand if زادincreased الضياءthe radiance أقاماit stayed

For you are nothing but the full moon: when its light wanes,
For you're like the moon - when its light grows faint
It visits only at intervals; but when the radiance grows, it stays.
